According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Steelers QBย Ben Roethlisberger did, in fact, suffer cracked ribs during the team’s loss to the Raiders last week.
Roethlisberger said that there was an issue with the X-ray machine at the Oakland Alameda Coliseum that prevented them from knowing whether he had sustained cracked ribs.
Rapoport says that Roethlisberger is expected to play in Sunday’s game against the Patriots, despite the injury.
“[It’s] nothing that should really limit him going forward,” Rapoport said. “Wouldn’t be surprised if he has more, let’s say treatment like he did last week. He took a shot in the locker room and came back and then played. He should be fine going forward. But yes, unlike that X-ray machine, I can actually tell you, they were cracked.”
Rapoport adds that Roethlisberger talked to a couple of people within the Steelers organization about whether they were surprised to hear there was a situation with the X-ray machine in Oakland.
“If it’s something crazy, it probably happens in Oakland,” a source told Rapoport.
Roethlisberger, 36, is in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $64 million guaranteed. He stands to make base salaries of $12 million over the final two years of the agreement.
In 2018, Roethlisberger has appeared in 13 games for the Steelers and completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,227 yards, 28 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.
