Ben Roethlisberger Expected To Return & Be Ready For 2020 Season

Chris Mortensen reports that the Steelers are “optimistic” that QB Ben Roethlisberger will recover from the elbow surgery he underwent that reattach three tendons.

Roethlisberger has yet to be cleared to throw, but Mortensen says he wants and expects to play in 2020 and beyond. 

The Steelers have been forced to start Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges after losing Boetherlisberger for the season back in September. 

Roethlisberger, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Steelers back in 2004. He was in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract he finalized a three-year, $68 million contract this offseason that included a $37.5 million signing bonus.

Roethlisberger stands to make base salaries of $2,500,000 and $8,500,000 over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2019, Roethlisberger appeared in two games and completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 351 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
