According to Jason La Canfora, Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger avoided any ligament or tendon damage in his injured elbow and plans to resume throwing in the spring.
La Canfora adds the surgery was to repair a muscle tear in Roethlisberger’s elbow, which puts him easily on pace to return by the start of training camp next season.
The Steelers veteran has already affirmed his desire to continue playing after returning from the injury. Roethlisberger reportedly mulled retirement a couple of years ago but signed a three-year extension with Pittsburgh this offseason.
Roethlisberger, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Steelers back in 2004. He was in the second year of his five-year, $99 million contract he finalized a three-year, $68 million contract this offseason that included a $37.5 million signing bonus.
Roethlisberger stands to make base salaries of $2,500,000 and $8,500,000 over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2019, Roethlisberger appeared in two games and completed 56.5 percent of his passes for 351 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
