Sterk, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Montana State back in April. He later signed a three-year, $2.28 million contract with the Dolphins.
However, the Dolphins opted to waive Sterk on Thursday.
Sterk began his college career at Washington before transferring to Montana State for the 2018 season. In total, he recorded 61 tackles, 8.5 sacks and two passes defended in 2018.
