According to Geoff Hobson, the Bengals have informed CBย Adam Jones that they won’t be picking up his 2018 option, butย would like to bring him back to compete for their nickel corner job and returner position.
Jones’ option would have cost the Bengals $6.5 million for the 2018 season, so it’s possible they could look to bring him back a reduced rate.
Jones, 34, is a former first-round pick by the Titans in the 2005 NFL Draft. He was in Tennessee for two years before serving a year-long suspension in 2007 for violating personal conduct policy. Jones later signed with the Cowboys for one season before landing a three-year deal with the Bengals.
Jones was entering the final year of a three-year, $22 million contract that included $6 million guaranteed and would have made a base salary of $5.3 million for the 2018 season had they picked up his option.
In 2017, Jones appeared in nine games for the Bengals and recorded 23 total tackles, one interception, four pass defenses, and one forced fumble.
