Bengals owner Mike Brown said that QB Carson Palmer has retired from the NFL today, per theย Cincinnati Enquirer.
“Carson signed a contract, he made a commitment,” said Brown. “He gave us his word. … We expected him to perform here. If he is going to walk away from his commitment we arenโt going to reward him for doing it.”
Brown has reportedly been firm in his decision to not trade Palmer throughout the offseason. I can understand that he’s taking stand on principle but at the cost of his team. Cincinnati wasn’t going to win the Super Bowl with Palmer and most likely would not have won their division so trading him for some extra talent or draft picks would at least give them a start at rebuilding a miserable team.
