Bengals Taking “Wait-And-See” Approach With Andy Dalton Extension

Katherine Terrell reports that the Bengals are taking a “wait-and-see” approach regarding a possible contract extension for QB Andy Dalton

Terrell writes that the Bengals believe Dalton “played great” in September before they suffered multiple offensive injuries.

Bengals owner Mike Brown confirmed soon after that he would like to see Dalton re-establish himself in 2019 prior to negotiating a possible extension.

I think it’s a good year for (Dalton) to show like he can, like we think he will,” said Brown, via Fletcher Page of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “After he re-establishes himself we would want to get together with him and see if we can extend it. I think Andy is a good player and that he will rebound off last year. He was hurt. We lost so many other pieces. It fell apart, but if he’s healthy and we stay healthy enough, I have confidence in him.”

Dalton, 31, is a former second-round pick of the Bengals back in 2011. He’s currently in the fifth year of his seven-year, $97.09 million contract, which includes $17 million guaranteed.

Dalton stands to make base salaries of $13.7 million and $16 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2018, Dalton appeared in 11 games for the Bengals and thrown for 2,566 yards while completing 61.9 percent of his passes to go along with 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
