According to Field Yates, the Buffalo Bills have restructured LT Dion Dawkins‘ contract to add about $3.9 million in cap space to their books for the 2023 season.
Buffalo was previously last in the NFL in cap space with less than $1 million available, so this move was likely necessary to give them enough budget to work with for in-season moves.
Dawkins, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Bills back in 2017 out of Temple. He was in the final year of his four-year, $4.18 million contract that included $1.93 million guaranteed when he signed a four-year, $60 million extension with Buffalo.
Dawkins is set to make base salaries of $8.855 million and $9.3 million over the next two seasons.
In 2023, Dawkins has appeared in seven games for the Bills, making seven starts at left tackle. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 19 tackle out of 74 qualifying players.
