Adam Schefter reports that the Colts are trading their No. 13 overall pick to the 49ers for All-Pro DT DeForest Buckner.
According to Schefter, the Colts have already agreed to a new contract with Buckner that will pay him $21 million per year and makes him the second-highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history behind only Aaron Donald.
This trade comes shortly after the 49ers announced a massive five-year extension worth up to $85 million with DL Arik Armstead.
Buckner is one of the top defensive linemen in the NFL and should be a great addition to the Colts’ defensive front for years to come.
Buckner, 25, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2016. He was in the final year of his four-year, $18.19 million contract when the 49ers picked up his fifth-year option last year.
In 2019, Buckner appeared in all 16 games for the 49ers and recorded 62 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, a defensive touchdown and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 10 interior defender out of 114 qualifying players.
