Cowboys Re-Signing WR Amari Cooper To Five-Year, $100M Deal

Adam Schefter reports that WR Amari Cooper intends to re-sign with the Cowboys to a five-year, $100 million contract.

According to Schefter, the Redskins attempted to sign Cooper away from the Cowboys, but he opted to re-sign with Dallas.

The Cowboys managed to keep both Cooper and QB Dak Prescott in place. Although it took using the exclusive franchise tag on Prescott and allowing Cooper to test the open market on Monday before a deal got done.

Either way, it was clear that Cooper at the leverage to secure a massive deal, so this really shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Cooper said previously that he wants to be “a Dallas Cowboy for life.”

“I love being a Dallas Cowboy,” Cooper said. “I think about it almost every day. Just the aura of being a Dallas Cowboy, you can’t beat it. I want to be a Dallas Cowboy for life.”

Cooper, 25, is a former No. 4 overall pick by the Raiders out of Alabama in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Raiders traded him to the Cowboys for a first-round pick midway through the 2018 season.

Cooper played out the final year of his four-year, $22.7 million contract, but his fifth-year option which cost them $13,924,000 for 2019. He’s set to be an unrestricted free agent.

In 2019, Cooper appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and caught 79 passes for 1,189 yards receiving and eight touchdowns.

We had him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
