Adam Schefter reports that Falcons S Keanu Neal suffered a torn ACL during Thursday night’s season opener against the Eagles and is now out for the season.
You can expect the Falcons to place Neal on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their active roster.
Earlier this morning, Falcons HC Dan Quinn said he was optimistic that Neal’s knee injury was minor, but he still underwent an MRI to determine the severity of the injury and it looks like tests showed it was worse than they initially feared.
The Falcons will likely turn to Damontae Kazee now that Neal is out for the year.
Neal, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2016. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $10,737,644 contract and stands to make base salaries of $1.426 million and $1.914 million over the final two years of the agreement.
The Falcons will have to decide whether to pick up Neal’s fifth-year option next year.
In 2018, Neal appeared in one game and recorded two tackles for the Falcons.
