Raiders Signing RB Doug Martin

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Raiders have agreed to terms with former Buccaneers RB Doug Martin to a one-year deal.

Raiders HC Jon Gruden reportedly arranged for a face-to-face meeting with Martin last week and came away impressed with him as a person, so it was clear that Martin was on Oakland’s list of running back targets.

The addition of Martin is likely bad news for RB Marshawn Lynch, who has been mentioned as a potential roster cut this offseason.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Martin to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Martin, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. He was third in the first year of his five-year, $35.75 million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.75 million for the 2017 season when the Buccaneers released him a few weeks ago.

In 2017, Martin appeared in 11 games for the Buccaneers and rushed for 406 yards on 138 carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 84 yards receiving and three touchdowns.
