This is a stunning development, given that Gaine was hired back in January of last year.
The Texans will have executive senior VP Chris Olsen take over GM responsibilities until a new GM is hired.
Houston joins the Jets as teams in need of a GM right now.
Gaine played three seasons in the NFL for the Jets, Giants and Chiefs. He later took a scouting job with the Jets in 1999.
From there, Gaine worked for the Cowboys, Dolphins and Texans before the Bills hired him as their VP of player personnel in 2017. He spent just one year in the position before the Texans hired him as their GM.
The Texans went 11-5 (68.8 percent) in Gaine’s one season in Houston, which included a trip to the playoffs.
