James Palmer says he’s talked to people in the Broncos’ organization who acknowledge there is a “real possibility” they could trade for Packers QB Aaron Rodgers.
Palmer adds he was given a caveat that deals like this for huge superstars are difficult to close but there are a lot of reasons the Broncos make sense as a landing spot if Green Bay moves on from Rodgers.
Denver has the second-most cap space in the NFL and would be one of the few teams that could absorb Rodgers’ contract in a trade. Despite trading for Teddy Bridgewater, his contract is not sizable and wouldn’t prevent a trade.
The Broncos’ most glaring weakness is quarterback and they’re in the AFC, so they make sense for a lot of reasons as a partner if Green Bay changes its mind on Rodgers.
Palmer says when the news came out about Rodgers’ discontent, the Broncos started looking at potential packages they could put together for Green Bay.
Rodgers, 37, is a former first-round pick of the Packers back in 2005. He agreed to a four-year, $134 million extension that includes over $100 million guaranteed in 2018.
Rodgers is owed base salaries of $15,050,000 and $25 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2020, Rodgers appeared in all 16 games for the Packers and completed 70.7 percent of his passes for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns, and five interceptions. He also rushed for 149 yards and three touchdowns.
We’ll have more regarding Rodgers and the Packers as the news is available.
