Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Broncos OLB Von Miller has a confirmed case of COVID-19. Rapoport says he was able to confirm this with Miller’s agency.
According to Rapoport, Miller is at home resting and in good spirits. The plan is for Miller to speak publicly on Friday regarding his situation.
Troy Renck notes that Miller has battled asthma and allergies since he was a kid.
Miller tells Mike Klis that he started feeling normal on Wednesday.
โIโve just been here in the crib and I started to get a little cough. Got tested two days ago. “I started to feel normal yesterday and then this morning Dr. (Steve) Geraghty called me and told me. It’s crazy,โ Miller said. “It’s crazy. I have to be quarantined here at the house. There’s not really any medicine or anything. I’m still new to this. This is like an hour. But I tell ya, I’m in good spirits. I’m still Von. I’m not feeling sick or hurting or anything like that.”
Here’s a statement from the Broncos:
“After experiencing flu-like symptoms, Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller has tested positive for COVID-19. Von has elected to share his diagnosis publicly to emphasize that anyone can be afflicted with coronavirus.
“Von is doing well and recovering at home in self-isolation. He remains under the care of team doctors, who are following all coronavirus treatment procedures to ensure a safe environment for Von and our community.
“Von is the first member of the Broncos’ organization known to have tested positive for COVID-19.”
Last night, a report mentioned that Rams C Brian Allen was the first active NFL player to test positive for the virus. However, it’s likely there will be more cases confirmed in the NFL over the next few weeks.
Miller, 30, is a former first-round pick of the Broncos back in 2011. After playing out his rookie deal, Denver picked up his fifth-year option and later used their franchise tag on Miller.
The Broncos signed Miller to a six-year, $114 million extension in 2016 with $70 million guaranteed. He will make $18 million in 2020 with $6 million fully guaranteed and count $25.625 million against the cap.
Denver officially picked up Miller’s option last month.
In 2019, Miller appeared in 15 games for the Broncos and recorded 46 tackles, eight sacks and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 25 edge defender out of 111 qualifying players.
We wish Miller the best and a quick recovery.
