According to Adam Schefter, the Broncos don’t plan to fire HC Vic Fangio and will keep him for the 2021 season.
Denver is currently 5-9 and tied for last place in the AFC West. It’s the Broncos’ fourth-straight losing season and they haven’t returned to the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl in 2015.
However, Schefter says the Broncos want to give the team a chance at stability with Fangio. They also believe he’s been dealt a tough hand with all of the injuries in 2020 and think he can turn it around.
Schefter notes Denver’s turbulent ownership situation also plays a role, as there’s no real single person in control of the franchise yet to sign off on a major move and lead a coaching search.
Fangio, 62, began his NFL coaching career with the Saints back in 1986 as their linebackers coach. He has worked for several teams including the Panthers, Colts, Texans, Ravens and 49ers before he was hired by the Bears as their defensive coordinator back in 2015.
The Broncos hired Fangio as their head coach in 2019. During his two years in Denver, Fangio has a record of 12-18 so far.
