Browns Cut 10 Players

The Cleveland Browns announced Thursday that they’ve released or waived 10 players. The full list of roster cuts includes:

  1. DB Jason McCourty
  2. DB B.W. Webb
  3. DL Ricky Ali’ifua
  4. OL Zach Banner
  5. DL Collin Bevins
  6. LB Jeremy Cash
  7. OL Joseph Cheek
  8. WR Sammie Coates
  9. DB Trevon Hartfield
  10. RB Josh Rounds

McCourty, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Titans back in 2009. He has spent eight years of his career with Tennessee and was in the final year of his six-year, $44.26 million contract when the Titans elected to release him last year.

The Browns quickly signed McCourty to a two-year, $6 million contract that included $2 million guaranteed. He was set to make a base salary of $625,000 for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing McCourty will free up $2,968,750 of available cap space while creating $625,000 in dead money.

In 2017, McCourty appeared in 14 games for the Browns and recorded 65 tackles, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, forced fumbles and 14 pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 27 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.

Coates, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Steelers back in 2015. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $3 million contract and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2017 season.

The Steelers traded Coates to the Browns last year for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

In 2017, Coates appeared in 12 games for the Browns and caught six passes for 70 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
