According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Browns LB Jamie Collins is expected to be traded, released or have his contract restructured at some point in the near future.
Cabot mentions that if the Browns are able to find a trade partner for Collins, he would likely have to restructure his contract, given that he’s owed base salaries of $10.5 million and $12.5 million over the next two years.
Brown GM John Dorsey reportedly met with Collins’ agent at the Combine and he acknowledged there were some “inconsistencies” this past season.
“There were some inconsistencies,” Dorsey said. “You don’t know what leads to it. He may have been nicked. All I know is he’s a very talented football player and you can’t have enough of those guys on your team.”
Collins, 29, is a former second-round pick of the Patriots back in 2013. The Patriots traded him to the Browns for a conditional fourth-round pick that can become a third-round compensatory pick.
The Browns then signed Collins to a four-year, $50 million contract that contained $26 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus back in late January. He stands to make base salaries of $10 million (2019) and $12 million (2020).
In 2018, Collins appeared in all 16 games for the Browns and recorded 104 tackles, four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, a recovery and four pass defenses.
We’ll have more regarding Collins as the news is available.
