Buccaneers Interested In RB Devonta Freeman If He Lowers Asking Price

Per Rick Stroud, Buccaneers HC Bruce Arians said the team would be interested in signing free-agent RB Devonta Freeman if he lowered his asking price.

Arians pointed out the Buccaneers don’t have an abundance of cap room to add the former Falcons running back.

While previous reports of Tampa Bay having a contract offer on the table for Freeman were erroneous, Arians confirms there is interest from the Buccaneers.

The Seahawks were reportedly offering Freeman a one-year contract worth up to $4 million with a base value of less than $3 million. Freeman declined Seattle’s offer and the Seahawks opted to give the deal to Carlos Hyde instead. The Eagles have also shown some interest in adding Freeman.

Freeman has left open the possibility of sitting out the 2020 season if his options don’t improve, but refuted rumors of retirement

Freeman, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Falcons back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $2.7 million contract when he and the Falcons agreed to a five-year, $41.25 million extension that included $22 million guaranteed.

Freeman stood to make base salaries of $6.5 million and $6.3 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Falcons released him this offseason.

In 2019, Freeman appeared in 14 games and rushed for 656 yards on 184 carries (3.6 YPC) and two touchdowns to go along with 59 receptions for 410 yards receiving and four touchdowns.

We have him included in our Top 100 Available 2020 Free Agents list.
