Cardinals Declining DT Robert Nkemdiche’s Fifth-Year Option

Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that the Cardinals are declining DT Robert Nkemdiche’s fifth-year option.

This isn’t a big surprise, considering that Nkemdiche is coming off of a season-ending ACL tear and hasn’t lived up to his draft status.

For what it’s worth, Nkemdiche has reportedly been on the trade block. However, it seems unlikely that any team will be interested in acquiring him, due to the knee injury.

Nkemdiche, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2016. He’s currently in the final year of his four-year, $7.6 million contract and set to make a base salary of $1,122,808 for the 2019 season.

Nkemdiche will be an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2018, Nkemdiche appeared in 10 games for the Cardinals and recorded 32 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass defense.
