The Chargers will place S Derwin James on injured reserve on Sunday, per Daniel Popper.
Los Angeles will re-sign S Jaylen Watkins to fill the open roster spot according to Popper.
James will be eligible to be activated from injured reserve starting Week 9. He should be a candidate to return at some point in the second half of the season as he works back from a broken foot.
James, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Chargers back in 2018. He agreed to a four-year, $12,432,314 contract with the Chargers that includes a $7,121,684 signing bonus.
James’ contract includes a fifth-year option for the Chargers to pick up in 2021.
In 2018, James appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and recorded 105 tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, and 13 pass defenses.
