The San Diego Chargers officially signed six players to future/reserve contracts on Monday including:
- OT Brettย Boyko
- DB Randall Evans
- DB Michael Lee
- LB Chris McCain
- DB Adrian McDonald
- TE Jake McGee
Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and during training camp.
McCain, 24, wound up going undrafted out of California back in 2014. Heโs managed to make the 53-man roster in each of his first two years in the NFL and was in the final year of hisย three-year, $1.53 million rookie contract and was set to make a base salary of $600,000 for the 2016 season.
McCain was traded to the Saintsย but was waived as the team cut their roster down to 53 players. Dallas signed him to their practice squad just a few days later but unfortunately waived him in September.
McCain was off and on of the Saints’ active roster this season before eventually signing on to the Chargers practice squad in November.
In 2016,ย McCain has appeared in two games and recorded one tackle for the Saints.
