Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that Chargers WR Stevie Johnson suffered aย torn meniscus andย will undergoย surgeryย at some point in the near future.
According to Silver, it’s still unclear if this will end Johnson’s 2016 season.
Johnson was carried off the practice field on Sunday after going down with a non-contact right knee injury, so it was clear that this could be a serious issue.
With Johnson likely to miss at least an extended portion of the season, it’s possible they could be in the market to add another receiver. As of now, the Chargers have Dontrelle Inman, Tyrell Williams, Javontee Herndon, Isaiah Burse and Dom Williams behind starters Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin.
Johnson, 30, is in the second year of his three-year, $10.5 million contractย and stands to make base salaries ofย $2.9 million and $3.5 million over the next two years.
In 2015, Johnson appeared in 10 games for the Chargers and recorded 45 receptions for 497 yards receiving and three touchdowns.ย Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 62 receiver out of 121 qualifying players.
