Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland Arrested, Facing Multiple Charges

Update:

Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo report that Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland was already facing a four-game suspension for a separate violation of the substance-abuse policy before his recent arrest.

Garafolo mentions that the new CBA calls for significantly reduced punishment for substance-abuse-policy violations so it’s possible this gets reduced on appeal.

According to a police report obtained by TMZ Sports, police say the arresting officer used a taser and a firearm to take Breeland into custody after he “attempted to flee the scene.”

Police claim Breeland and two other men smoking marijuana at a gas station at around 11 AM on Tuesday. They attempted to hide the week when the officer arrived, which led to the officer pulling out a taser and demanding that Breeland stop resisting.

After Breeland did not comply, the officer “drew his issued firearm and issued more lawful commands to Bashaud Breeland who was concealing his hand.”

The report says other citizens begged Breeland to “stop resisting” and the officer was eventually able to handcuff him.

Police found a “large marijuana blunt” along with 3.2 grams of weed in the driver door along with open bottles of beer and tequila in the car.

Breeland gave the deputies permission to look through his cell phone and they allegedly found “several communications about drug transactions.”

Breeland told police he is a “marijuana enthusiast” and not a drug dealer.

He was released Tuesday night on $2,362 bond.

Adam Teicher of ESPN reports that Chiefs CB Bashaud Breeland was arrested on Tuesday in York County, South Carolina.

According to Teicher, Breeland is facing multiple charges including resisting arrest, having alcohol in a motor vehicle with the seal broken, having an open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle, possession of 28 grams or less of marijuana or 10 grams of hash, and driving without a license.

A sheriff’s officer tells Teicher that Breeland is in county jail and bond had not been set at this time.

The Chiefs are aware of the situation and declined to offer any comments beyond that.

Breeland, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.706 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.

The following year, Breeland and the Panthers agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal that includes $11 million guaranteed and $9.5 million fully guaranteed. However, he later failed a physical due to a foot injury and it took until September for him to agree to a one-year contract with the Packers.

The Chiefs signed Breeland to a one-year contract last year and brought him back on a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million last month.

In 2019, Breeland appeared in all 16 games for the Chiefs and recorded 48 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, a defensive touchdown and eight passes defended.

Weโ€™ll have more regarding Breeland as the news is available.
