Chiefs OLB Justin Houston Expected To Report To Training Camp

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the situation, reports that Chiefs OLBย Justin Houston is expected to be in attendance for the start of training camp, despite his currentย contract situation.

According to Florio, Houston remains upset with the Chiefs, but would prefer to not loose anymore thanย he has already lost.

Florio mentions that Houston could be finedย $30,000 per day and could miss out on anย opportunity to test the open market next year if his holdout were to last longer than 30 days after the start of the regular season.

Houston, 25, is in line for a sizable contract after producing back-to-back seasons with at least 10 sacks, despite the fact that he’s set to makeย justย $645,000 for the 2014 season.

The Chiefs got an absolute steal when they drafted him at No.ย 70 overall in theย 2011 NFL Draft.

Outside linebackers done pretty well in recent years, so I’m sure Houston could secure a similar contract to that of Browns OLBย Paul Krugerย who signed aย five-year, $40.5 million contract that included $20 million guaranteed last year.

Kansas City took Auburn OLBย Dee Fordย in the first-round of this year’s draft, which was probably a smart move given that Houston wants a huge contract and there are some concerns aboutย Tamba Haliย moving forward.

Last year, Hosuton totaled 44 tackles, 11 sacks, a forced fumble and two recoveries over the course of just 11 games.
