Chiefs Release Veteran CB David Amerson

Brooke Pryor of the Kansas City Star reports that the Chiefs are releasing veteran CB David Amerson on Saturday as they cut their roster down to 53 players.

Other reported roster cuts for the Chiefs include:

  1. LB Otha Peters
  2. CB Keith Reaser
  3. WR Daniel Braverman
  4. Raymond Davison
  5. Ray Lawry
  6. OLB Frank Zombo
  7. CB Arrion Springs
  8. Rob McCray
  9. Will Redmond
  10. CB David Amerson

Amerson, 26, is a former second-round pick of the Redskins back in 2013. Washington waived him during the 2015 season and he was later claimed off of waivers by the Redskins.

Amerson signed four-year, $38 million extension with close to $18 million guaranteed with the Raiders back in 2016. He was set to make base salaries of $5.5 million and $7 million over the next two years of the agreement when the Raiders released him in a move that freed up $6 million of available cap space.

Kansas City signed Amerson to a one-year deal worth up to $6 million this offseason, making his stay with the Chiefs short-lived.

According to OverTheCap.com, the Chiefs free up $1,359,375 in cap space by releasing him, while creating $500,000 in dead money.

In 2017, Amerson appeared in six games for the Raiders and recorded 18 tackles, no interceptions, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses.
