The Kansas City Chiefs introduced new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll today. Head coach Romeo Crennel mentioned that he would like to see Daboll build on the recent turn around of the Miami Dolphins offense in Kansas City.
One of the big question marks for the Chiefs has been their plan for the quarterback position as Crennel and president Scott Pioli have said publicly that they intend to bring in some competition for Matt Cassel next season. Despite the teamโs intentions, Daboll believes that can be Cassel can be their guy next season.
โA have a lot of confidence in Matt Cassel. Iโve watched him on tape and I know the player,โ Daboll said via Josh Looney of KCChiefs.com.
Kyle Ortonโs name has been floated as an option for the Chiefs but he could draw interest from some teamโs during free agency depending on how the market plays out. Cassel is under team control for another three yearโs and his 2012 salary will be $5.25 million. This very well could be a make or break season for him as his contract to $7.5 million in 2013 and $9 million in 2014.
SI.comโs Jim Trotter mentions that WR Dwayne Bowe would like to remain in Kansas City as long as theyโre willing to come close to his contract demands.
Santonio Holmesโ five-year, $45 million contract has been tossed out as a deal that Bowe may look to replicate. The good news for the Chiefs is that they have their franchise tag to use on him if theyโre unable to reach a deal but that would mean that they would have to get CB Brandon Carr under contract or risk losing him to free agency.
