Field Yates of ESPN is reporting that the Chiefs have signed veteran DT Mike Pennel and released DT Terrell McClain on Saturday.
The Chiefs hosted Pennel for a tryout earlier in the week, so he was clearly on their radar as a potential addition.
Pennel, 28, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo back in 2014. He was waived towards the end of 2016 and was later claimed off of waivers by the Jets.
The Jets re-signed Pennel to a three-year contract worth up to $12 million in 2018 but New York declined his team-option after one season. He signed on with the Patriots back in March but was cut loose in late August.
Pennel has worked out for the Colts, Lions, Packers, and Cardinals since becoming a free agent.
In 2018, Pennel appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 27 tackles, no sacks an a pass defense.
We had him featured in our Top 50 Available Free Agents list.
McClain, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Panthers back in 2011. He lasted just over a year in Carolina before he was waived at the start of the 2012 season and later signed by the Patriots.
McClain had stints with the Texans and Cowboys before signing a four-year, $21 million contract with the Redskin in 2017. Washington released him after only one year and he later signed a one-year, $4 million deal with Atlanta last year.
The Cardinals signed McClain during the offseason only to release him in August. He just recently signed on with the Chiefs.
In 2019, McClain has appeared in two games for the Chiefs and recorded three tackles.
