Rob Demovsky reports that the Chiefs are signing CB Bashaud Breeland to a contract on Monday.
- According to Ian Rapoport, Breeland receives a one-year, incentive-laden deal that can be worth a max value of $5 million.
The Chiefs were clearly in the market for cornerback help and met with Ronald Darby and Darqueze Dennard and scheduled a visit with Jason Verrett. However, it appears as though they determined Breeland was their best option.
Breeland, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2014. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.706 million contract and made a base salary of $690,000 for the 2017 season.
Last March, Breeland and the Panthers agreed to a three-year, $24 million deal that includes $11 million guaranteed and $9.5 million fully guaranteed. However, he later failed a physical due to a foot injury and it took until September for him to agree to a one-year contract with the Packers.
In 2018, Breeland has appeared in seven games for the Packers and recorded 20 tackles, two interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery and four pass defenses. He has also totaled 173 kick return yards.
Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 100 cornerback out of 112 qualifying players.
