Colt McCoy In The Mix To Start For Redskins

According to Ian Rapoport, the Redskins are considering starting QB Colt McCoy for their next game against the Patriots.

Washington benched starter Case Keenum for first-round rookie Dwayne Haskins during Sunday’s 24-3 loss against the Giants, but neither quarterback played well. Keenum threw for only 37 yards and had an interception, while Haskins threw three interceptions after he entered the game.

Rapoport reports Redskins HC Jay Gruden likes McCoy “maybe more than anyone else in the NFL.” McCoy just returned to practice this week after an extended recovery from a broken leg late last season.

Rapoport says McCoy will get at least a shot to run this offense for a while and is in the mix with the other three quarterbacks to start.

McCoy, 33, is a former third-round pick out of Texas by the Browns back in 2010. He was traded from Cleveland to the 49ers back in 2013 and later signed on with Washington as an unrestricted free agent in 2014.

McCoy stands to make a base salary of $3 million for the 2019 season before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020.

In 2018, McCoy appeared in three games for the Redskins and completed 63 percent of his passes for 372 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.
