Colts Interested In Re-Signing CB Rashaan Melvin

Colts’ impending free-agent CB Rashaan Melvin said that the team told him that they would like to re-sign him to a contract extension and that he would like to return to Indianapolis.

I’m waiting to see exactly where we (him & the Colts) stand. I know it’s all positive,” said Melvin, via SiriusXM NFL Radio. “They told me they want me to be back. That’s where my career blossomed so I wouldn’t mind going back there.. there’s a lot of potential there.”

Yesterday, Mike Chappell of CBS 4 pointed out that Melvin could demand more than the Colts would be willing to pay as an unrestricted free agent, so it will be interesting to see what the cornerback demands.

Melvin, 28, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Illinois back in 2013. He has played for a few teams since the Buccaneers cut him loose at the start of the 2014 season including the Dolphins, Ravens and Patriots.

In 2017, Melvin appeared in 10 games for the Colts and recorded 36 tackles, three interceptions and 13 pass defenses before landing on the injured reserve. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 19 cornerback out of 121 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 25 – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
