Colts “Most Likely” Option For Philip Rivers, Raiders Another Team To Watch

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Colts are among the interested teams in free agent QB Philip Rivers and it appears as though Indianapolis is the “most likely” landing spot for the veteran quarterback.

According to Rapoport, “many, many people who think Philip Rivers is going to ultimately end up as a member of the Colts.”

Rapoport says he still would not rule out the possibility of the Raiders being an option for the Rivers.

Earlier in the day, Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline reported that the belief at the NFL Combine is the Colts will pursue Rivers in free agency. Pauline noted that Rivers has a great relationship with HC Frank Reich

Beyond that, the Colts have a solid offensive line that could protect Rivers and cap space to improve their roster for a potential playoff run.

A few weeks ago, the Chargers and Rivers announced that they’ve mutually agreed to part ways.

Rivers, 38, is a former first-round pick of the Giants back in 2004. He was later traded to the Chargers in return for Eli Manning.

Rivers just finished the final year of his five-year, $99 million contract that includes $65 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $11 million for the 2019 season. He will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2019, Rivers appeared in all 16 games for the Chargers and completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,615 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
