The Indianapolis Colts announced Thursday that they’ve signedย ILB Darnell Sankey to a futures deal for the 2018 season.
As of now, the Colts have signed nine players to futures deals including:
- TE Mo Alie-Cox
- WR Dres Anderson
- DT Johnathan Calvin
- WR Kolby Listenbee
- OLB Arthur Miley
- OLB Josh Perry
- QB Phillip Walker
- G Isaiah Williams
- ILB Darnell Sankey
Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.
Sankey, 23, originally signed on with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Sacramento State. Unfortunately, Denver chose to waive him as they trimmed down to 75 players.
The Raiders later signed him to their practice squad a few weeks into the regular season before cutting him loose in October of last year. He signed to the Chiefs practice squad but was released after a month with the team.
The Vikings signed him to a contract in August but elected to cut him loose after a few weeks. He was on and off of the Colts roster before catching on with the Ravens in November.
During his four-year college career, Sankey recorded 330 tackles, 12.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two recoveries an interception and nine pass defenses.ย Sankey earned FCS All-America honors during his senior season atย Sacramento State.
