According to the Athletic’s Stephen Holder, a league source says the Colts would have interest in a trade for Raiders QB Derek Carr if Las Vegas acquired a different quarterback this offseason.
The Raiders are reportedly planning to investigate potential options at upgrading from Carr this offseason. The team did its due diligence on the top passers in 2019 and is expected to do the same for the crop of 2020 quarterbacks available in the draft.
Las Vegas could also make a run at Patriots QB Tom Brady if he elects to leave New England. Either way, there’s a chance Carr becomes expendable this offseason.
With the Colts also looking at potentially upgrading from incumbent starting QB Jacoby Brissett, Carr could find a landing spot in Indianapolis if he’s shipped out before the team’s move to Las Vegas.
Carr, 28, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He was in the final year of his contract when the Raiders signed him to a five-year, $125 million extension that included $70 million guaranteed in 2017.
Carr stands to make base salaries of $18.9 million and $19.52 million over the next two years of the agreement.
In 2019, Carr appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and completed 70.4 percent of his passes for 4,054 yards, 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed 27 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
We’ll have more on Carr as the news is available.
