Demaryius Thomas Willing To Offer The Broncos A Hometown Discount

Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas mentioned during an interview with Dan Hellie of the NFL Network that he would consider taking a hometown discount to stay in Denver.

“Of course, why not?” Thomas asked while on NFL Total Access. “Peyton is one of the best in the game, and I’ve been blessed to have him as my quarterback. I learned so much of him. Denver, of course I gotta take my hats off to them because they took a chance of drafting me in the first round.”

Thomas would be one of the most sought after free agents in next year’s market, assuming the Broncos don’t use their franchise tag on him. However, it would be surprising to see accept a contract that would pay him less than a market value salary, even with the opportunity to continue playing with Manning.

The counterargument here is that leaving for greener pastures, much like Eric Decker did last year when he left the Broncos to sign with the Jets, doesn’t always play out as though a player was hoping it would.

Remaining with the Broncos would give Thomas not only the ability to compete for Super Bowl titles while making a decent salary in the process.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports previously reported the Broncos are likely to use their franchise tag on Thomas next year and continue to negotiate a long-term deal with TE Julius Thomas that should run them much less.

Demaryius, 26, is clearly one of the best receivers in the game and has earned a sizable raise from the Broncos. He’ll make $3.275 million during the final year of his rookie contract.

Over the course of 12 games, Thomas has caught 88 passes for 1,255 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns. We have both Broncos’ free agents listed in our Top 25 –  2015 Free Agents list.
