Dolphins Considering Acquiring No. 3 & No. 5 For “Godfather” Offer To Bengals

According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Dolphins are trying to acquire the No. 3 overall pick from the Lions in addition to their pick at No. 5.

The goal for Miami is to offer the Bengals a “Godfather” offer they can’t refuse for the No. 1 overall pick, which the Dolphins would then use on LSU QB Joe Burrow

The Dolphins have already tried several times to trade up with the Bengals for the No. 1 pick.

However, on Wednesday, Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals aren’t even pretending to entertain trade offers for the No. 1 pick anymore.

“We could just turn our ringers off on our phones,” one source told her.

In addition, reports from this morning indicate the Lions are planning to pick at No. 5 overall, suggesting they’re not willing to let Miami keep that pick.

The Lions have been open to trading down for months. Detroit is presumably targeting one of the top defenders in this draft, with Ohio State CB Jeffrey Okudah and Auburn DT Derrick Brown seen as the two most-likely options.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports the Lions have also had a lot of contact with Clemson LB Isaiah Simmons, so he could be in play in a trade-back scenario for Detroit as well.

The thinking for the Lions is they can move back, acquire more picks and still have an excellent chance of drafting the same player they would have at No. 3 overall.

Meanwhile, a report came out yesterday the Dolphins were interested in swapping picks with the Lions, presumably to move ahead of the Giants at No. 4 for an offensive tackle

There are four offensive tackles widely seen as in the top tier in this draft โ€” Iowa OT Tristan Wirfs, Alabama OT Jedrick Wills, Georgia OT Andrew Thomas and Louisville OT Mekhi Becton.

The order depends on who you ask but Miami is likely targeting one of those four. Thomas and Becton are among the two that have been linked to them.

This has been rumored as a possibility for the Dolphins as the draft approaches, but it’s interesting considering Miami needs a quarterback and gave Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa a passing grade on his physical

Burrow, 23, transferred to LSU to become the starter after three years at Ohio State. He had one of the best seasons for a quarterback in college football history in 2019, winning the Heisman, leading LSU to a national championship and cementing himself as a favorite for the first pick in the draft.

In 2019, Burrow completed 76.3 percent of his passes for 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns and six interceptions in 15 games. He also ran 115 times for 368 yards and an additional five touchdowns.

We’ll have more on a potential move at the top of the draft involving the Dolphins as the news is available.

  1. If the offer were Nos 3, 5, their 2nd, and their middle no. 1 (of three picks) next year, I would take it. I would use the 3 on either Young or Simmons, the 5 on either Tua or Herbert, use my 2 2nds on either a WR, EDGE or OL.
