Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins have scheduled a dinner with Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield on March 14 before his Pro Day. The Dolphins also spent time with Mayfield at the Senior Bowl last month.
As of now, Miami has yet to set up an official visit for Mayfield, but Jackson says it’s possible that could change.
According to Jackson, it’s “highly questionable” whether Mayfield will even be available to them at No. 11 overall. Although, that hasn’t prevented them from doing background work on him in case he ends up dropping to that point in round one.
A month ago, Mayfield wrote “#GetmetoMiami” in response to an Instagram post. He later explained he was just commenting about playing with former Sooner Kenny Stills and there was no reason to read into it too much.
Mayfield will be one of the most discussed players during the draft process, as some evaluators have questions about his height and prefer some of the other top prospects such as Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Josh Allen.
However, Mayfield was a highly productive player and we’ve seen some shorter quarterbacks have plenty of success in the NFL. There are sure to be teams who end up being big believers in Mayfield and his ability.
During his four-year college career at Texas Tech and Oklahoma, Mayfield threw for 14,607 yards while completing 68.5 percent of his passes to go along with 131 touchdowns and 30 interceptions over the course of 48 games. He also rushed 1,083 yards and 21 touchdowns.
Mayfield was the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.
