In what has to be the most surprising news of the day, Eagles head coach Andy Reid is set to announce that the team will keep Michael Vick as their starting quarterback. This report comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Pro Football Talk also adds that Michael Vick had just learned about the news within the last hour.
Chris Mortensen mentions that Michael Vick will be “the permanent starter, until further notice.” He also points to the Eagles offensive line problems as a likely reason as to why Reid has decided to go with Vick over Kolb.
Jason La Canfora tweets that an Eagles source said that “Vick is just playing too well and has all off season.”
Reid had given no indication what so ever that Kevin Kolb wouldn’t be the teams starting quarterback after Sunday’s game against the Lions. Michael Vick has even stated that he’s Kevin Kolb as the teams starting quarterback and is ok with being the backup.
Considering that Kolb has only played a limited amount of time this season, a direct comparison isn’t exactly fair at this point in time but Vick seems to get the offense going. Reid will have plenty of questions to answer regarding this news but Philly fans are probably ok with the decision.
