Jonathan Tamari of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to bench rookie LB Casey Matthews in favor of another rookie Brian Rolle.
The Eagles took a big gamble on Matthews as their pegged him as their starting middle linebacker despite the shortened offseason. Matthews was moved to weak-side linebacker for last week’s game but was beaten badly on pass that was thrown to Giants RB Brandon Jacobs.
Matthews isn’t the only person struggling on Philadelphia’s defense. Nnamdi Asomugha looked equally terrible last week as he missed multiple tackles and was beaten by Victor Cruz twice. At least Matthews the inexperience excuse.
