Eagles Declined Trade With Browns That Would’ve Sent Nick Foles To CLE For No. 35 Pick

Mike Silver of NFL Media, citingย three sources familiar with the talks, reports that the Eagles turned down a potential trade with the Browns that would have sent QB Nick Foles to Cleveland for the No. 35 overall pick.

According to Silver, the Eaglesย ran the scenario by Foles, who preferred to remain in Philadelphia, before they rejected the deal.

After the deal was declined, the Browns turned their attention to trading for then-Bills QB Tyrod Taylor, who they acquired for a third-round pick.ย The Browns later used the No. 35 pick to selectย Georgia running back Nick Chubb.

The Eagles and Foles later agreed to a revised contract that included a $2 million bonus for 2018ย and will allow him to earn up to $14 million in incentives for the 2018 season. There is also a “mutual option” in the deal for Foles to remain with the team in 2019.

Silver adds that it’s possible Foles could still be traded before the start of the 2018 season or in the weeks leading up to the Tuesday, Oct. 30 trade deadline.

Foles, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2012.ย Philadelphia traded Foles to the Rams back in 2015 in aย deal for QB Sam Bradfordย and he later signed an extension with the Rams.

Unfortunately, Foles lasted just over a year with the Rams before he was released last summer and later signed by the Chiefs. The Eagles signed Foles to a two-year, $11 million contract that includes $7 million guaranteed this past March. He was set to make a base salary of $4 million in 2018 when he agreed to a restructured contract this offseason.

In 2017, Foles appeared in seven games and completed 56.4 percent of his passes forย 537 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Beyond that, Foles led an impressive playoff thatย culminated in a Super Bowl title and him being named Super Bowl MVP.
