Eagles, Broncos & Lions “Strong Possibilities” For CB Byron Jones

Update:

Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN have heard that the Eagles, Broncos and Lions are “strong possibilities” for Cowboys free agent CB Byron Jones and that he could be seeking $17 million per year.

According to Adam Caplan, the Eagles are expected to be “all-in” on Cowboys CB Byron Jones at the start of free agency.

“They’re gonna be the first team up when they’re allowed to talk to the agents,” Caplan said on the “Inside The Birds” podcast, via 94 WIP. “The term is, they’ll be all-in, whatever you want to call it.”

Caplan says that Jones could end up costing a team around $17 million per year when all is said and done.

“When you’re having what we call having an A-level free-agent, you might have six to eight teams in,” Caplan added. “And then when teams find out what he wants—all you can really do at this point, because you can’t talk money and you can’t tamper, you can only let agents know, ‘Hey when we’re allowed to we want to talk to you.’ They can figure out who it is. So, make a long story short, I would say that deal when it comes in could hit 17 million a year.

Vincent Bonsignore reported over the weekend that the Raiders are also expected to be among the teams interested in Jones.

The Cowboys are in a tough situation, given that they need to pay both QB Dak Prescott and WR Amari Cooper, which is why Jones is almost certain to test the market and be playing elsewhere in 2020.

Jones, 27, is a former first-round pick out of Connecticut by the Cowboys in the 2015 NFL Draft. He played out the final year of his four-year, $8.601 million rookie contract, but the Cowboys elected to pick up his fifth-year option last year which cost them $6,266,000 for 2019.

In 2019, Jones appeared in 15 games and recorded 46 tackles, no interceptions, a forced fumble and six passes defended. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 cornerback out of 113 qualifying players.

We have him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
