Jay Glazer of FOX Sports first reported that the Eagles had signedย LBย Mychal Kendricksย to an extension.
- Adam Caplan of ESPN reports that the Eagles have agreed to a four-year extension with Kendricks worth $29 million and includesย $16.4 million guaranteed.
- The contract can increase up to $31.5 million and will pay him an annual salary of $7.25 million, according to Caplan.
- Caplan mentions that this deal is very solid for Kendricks, who many expected to get around $6.5 million per year in his next contract.
Kendricks discussed his new extension with Josina Anderson.
“I had a talk with Chip (Kelly) just now and heโs ecstatic. We just talked about me being here for another four years, and whatโs going to be expected. Thatโs playing good football. I understand itโs a business. I got raise, so they must feel Iโve been doing a good job. They want me to really enter into this season and take charge. I’m so excited. Letโs get it.”
Philadelphia elected to trade RB LeSean McCoy to the Bills in return for Kiko Alonso, which prompted a lot of speculation that Kendricks could be on the outs, especially with DeMeco Ryans on their roster as well.
However,ย Eaglesย HC Chip Kelly made it clear a few weeks ago that he wasn’t going anywhere.
“Mychal Kendricks is not going anywhere, I can tell you that right now,” Kelly said, via CSN Philly. “You can write that down in ink, not pencil. He’s not going anywhere.”
Kendricks, 24, hadย one year remaining on his four-year, $4.29 million rookie contract, which includes a base salary ofย $896,060 for the 2015.
In 2014,ย Kendricksย appeared in 12 games and recorded 83 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, and three pass defenses.ย Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 6ย inside linebackerย out of 60 qualifying players.
