Eagles Working Out OL Jared Wheeler, Signing Not A “Foregone Conclusion”

Update:

According to Geoff Mosher of CSN Philly, the Eagles are bringing in free agent OL Jared Wheeler for a workout on Monday.

However, Mosher adds that Philadelphia signing Wheeler to a contract may not be a done deal as his agent said.

Meanwhile, Jeff McLane is hearing that Wheeler’s signing isn’t a foregone conclusion as it seemed following the tweet from his agent.

As of now, it appears as though Wheeler will need an impressive workout to secure a contract from Philadelphia next week.

The Philadelphia Eagles are signing free agent OL Jared Wheeler to a contract on Monday, according to his agent Brent Tessler.

This move comes just a few days after the team parted ways with Pro Bowl G Evan Mathis. There had been talk that the Eagles could add a guard or possible two, so this really shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Wheeler, 24, signed on with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Miami last May. He lasted just a few months with the team before he was waived and later claimed by the Buffalo Bills.

Unfortuantely for Wheeler, he was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster coming out of the preseason and wasn’t added to a team’s practice squad.

Seattle later signed Wheeler to a contract this past March, but he was once again cut loose shortly after the draft.

During his senior season at Miami, Wheeler played in all 13 games, making six starts — one at left guard, two at center and three at right guard.
