Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan told reporters that Evan Royster will be their starter running back for the team’s upcoming preseason opener,ย Rich Campbell.
The Redskins re-signed Tim Hightower, despite the fact that he’s coming off of a torn ACL and several reports have suggested that the coaching staff remains high on him. Roy Helu seemed to be in line for a larger workload this season, but now it’s Royster who seems to be on the rise. This has been and almost certainly will remain the case in a Mike Shanahan offense. He’s gone with the running back-by-committee approach for years now, but a solid performance from Royster could actually increase his playing time for at least the first few games of the season.
