Falcons Place First-Round OL Chris Lindstrom On IR, Re-Sign OL John Wetzel

Update:

The Atlanta Falcons have placed first-round OL Chris Lindstrom on injured reserve following foot surgery and re-signed OL John Wetzel on Monday, according to Vaughn McClure

Wetzel, 28, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College back in 2013. He lasted just a few months in Oakland before catching on with the Cowboys mid-season.

Wetzel went on to spend a few years in Dallas before a brief stint with the Colts. He signed on to the Cardinals’ practice squad during the 2015 season and returned to Arizona on a future/reserve contract.

The Cardinals re-signed Wetzel as an exclusive rights free agent for both the 2017 and 2018 season. He caught on with the Falcons this past April but was released coming out of the preseason.

In 2018, Wetzel played in eight games for the Cardinals, starting five.

According to Vaughn McClure, the Falcons confirmed first-round OL Chris Lindstrom broke his foot during the game Sunday and will be in a walking boot for eight weeks.

Tom Pelissero confirms Lindstrom is likely headed for injured reserve. McClure adds the hope is that Lindstrom can return in time for the second half of the season.

Lindstrom, 22, was selected by the Falcons with the No. 14 overall pick. He agreed to a four-year, $14,708,738 rookie contract that includes $8,717,264 signing bonus.

Lindstrom’s deal includes a fifth-round option for the Falcons to pick up in the coming years.

During his college career at Boston College, Lindstrom was a four-year starter, a first-team All-ACC selection in 2018 and a second-team All-SEC recipient in 2017.
