Falcons HC Dan Quinn tells Vaughn McClure of ESPN that keeping DE Vic Beasley for the 2019 season is “the plan right now.”
“I’m very excited about where I think he can go to, and we’ve had good conversations about the impact that he can make,” Quinn said. “The biggest impact that he can make is doing it really consistently.”
Quinn mentioned that Beasley will need to earn an extension this season.
“One hundred percent,” Quinn said. “He’s knows that. We know that. … If he’s the competitor we think he is, then those are the moments you live for. I’m excited to see what he can be this year.”
Beasley actually came up as a possible trade candidate ahead of last year’s deadline, but Atlanta elected to hold on to him.
Beasley, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $14.5 million contract but the Falcons picked up his fifth-year option worth $14,200,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2018, Beasley appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 20 tackles, five sacks, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and three pass defenses.
