The Atlanta Falcons announced more changes to their coaching staff Monday, including:
- Moving LB coach/assistant HC Jeff Ulbrich to defensive coordinator
- Firing ST coordinator Ben Kotwica
- Moving RB coach Bernie Parmalee to ST coordinator
- Moving game management coordinator Will Harriger to RB coach
Ulbrich takes over for interim HC Raheem Morris as the full-time defensive coordinator. He has been the team’s linebacker coach for the past five seasons before being promoted to assistant head coach this offseason.
Kotwica meanwhile had been on thin ice after Atlanta’s infamous gaffe on the onside kick that led to a Week 2 loss to the Cowboys.
Ulbrich, 43, was drafted by the 49ers in the third round in 2000 out of Hawaii. After a 10-year playing career, all in San Francisco, Ulbrich retired in 2009 and started his coaching career.
He joined the Seahawks in 2010 as a special teams assistant. UCLA hired him as a LB coach in 2012 and he was a ST coordinator, assistant head coach and defensive coordinator before joining the Falcons in 2015 as a LB coach.
