Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee reports that former 49ers HC Jim Tomsula is on the Redskins’ radar as a potential addition to their coaching staff.
Barrows doesn’t say if Tomsula would garner consideration for the team’s defensive coordinator vacancy, but his expertise is on the defensive side of the ball.
Washington has interviewed Gus Bradley and Mike Pettine for their defensive coordinator position but it appears as though the Redskins will have competition for Bradley from the Chargers, who have also scheduled a meeting with him.
After being fired by the 49ers last January, Tomsula sat out the entire 2016 season.
Tomsula, 48, began his NFL coaching career with the 49ers as their defensive line coach back in 2007. He stayed in this position for several years before he took over for Jim Harbaugh after he was fired in 2015.
Tomsula’s record with the 49ers is 6-11 (35.3 percent), which includes one game he filled in as the team’s interim head coach during the 2010 season.
We’ll have more regarding the Redskins and Tomsula as the news is available.
