Former Carolina Panthers G Travelle Wharton will announce his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday.
“It’s time,” said Wharton, per Steve Reed. “I just had to admit it.”
All indications have been that Wharton was likely to call it a career, but he had yet to announce anything formally until now.
Wharton, 32, is coming off of a great 2013 season in which Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 5 guard in the league.
Interestingly enough, the Panthers actually released him back in 2012, but Wharton returned to Carolina last year when he signed a one-year contract. He has spent all nine seasons with the Panthers.
