Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas reports the Dallas Cowboys are “likely” to franchise OLB Anthony Spencer before upcoming deadline on Monday.
Watkins notes that Jerry Jones has only franchised two players in all his years as the teams owner but the Cowboys will most likely keep Spencer from hitting the open market. The move will cost them $8.8 million for the 2012 season but the two sides have met in recent weeks to discuss a possible long-term deal. Nothing appears to be imminent regarding a new contract but there’s a chance something could get, all be it a small chance at that.
